Copyright issues:
Copyright in the music industry is when the person who owns a copyright for the song has the right to decide whether their music is allowed to play to the public. Despite this if you are able to get permission you are allowed to play the music publicly. I have considered that if were to sell our CD there would be problems in the collection of royalties. Therefore, we won't be producing the CDs for public domain and keeping them private.
Week 1:
This week, my group and I have decided we will aim our product at the age range of 13-25 year old men and women which was an idea given to us by Frazer and Califfa and accepted by the other members of the group as a good idea. The first genre of song we decided upon was indie rock which was suggested by me. Frazer offered the idea of the song being "down by the river" as he knows a student who can play this song making this an easy addition for the CD. The second genre decided upon was grime, suggested by Ki and Ismael. Ki proposed to compose this song himself and we decided this would be the best course of action as he has the most experience in composing. Our third and final track we decided upon was a pop track by Justin Timberlake of which we haven't yet decided. Califfa gave us the idea of remixing two songs into one track but we eventually decided, after much debate over the pros and cons, that we would only do one song as this will both be easier and less time consuming.
In summary, we will be recording, mixing and burning our CD with the 3 chosen tracks above.
Week 2:
This week we decided who would be doing what by which point. We decided that Ki would've finished composing and recording the grime track by Wednesday (10.2.16). We also decided that Frazer would have finished the down by the river track and Califfa would've finished the Justin Timberlake track so that Ismael can burn them to CD next week during half term so that it's ready for after half term.
Week 3:
This week we decided who would be doing what part of the marketing. I am writing the press release, Califfa is making the flyers, Frazer is doing Twitter advertising and Ki is making a radio advert. I have started researching press releases and finding examples and will start writing mine next week.
Final Product
Senorita Califfa Kandekore Unit 7
Evaluation:
In my team I contributed by providing ideas, such as the contribution of the genre of indie rock and by writing the press release for our EP. I feel my contributions to the group have greatly affected the direction which our project took and helped in the overall completion of the tracks. 2 of the 3 tracks went very smoothly in production as Califfa and Frazer's tracks were already recorded. However there were a variety of problems with Ki's grime track causing it to be delayed. One of which being that it took longer to compose than originally planned and then, once recorded, he couldn't find the iPad which he recorded it on leading to it being re-recorded repeatedly. However the final tracks are good leading to a very professional EP. In the meetings, the group discussed with everyone inputting equal amounts. Additionally decisions were met well with little quarrels between us.
